Written in the Landscape – Traces of the First World War in the Dolomites
The volume, edited by Waltraud Kofler Engl and Gaia Piccarolo, is based on the research project “Written in the Landscape“, which, through a multidisciplinary approach, examines the overlapping material traces and the memories of the First World War in the region of Sexten-Sesto at the formerly Austrian/Italian border. Going beyond the conventional dichotomy between natural and cultural heritage, the project demonstrates the complexity of a difficult legacy that is still visible today in this iconic Alpine landscape and is deeply woven in the memory cultures of the local community of Sexten-Sesto. In 13 chapters the authors illuminate this piece of history from various viewpoints: conflict archeology, architectural history, anthropology, sociology and military history. Contributions are written in English, Italian or German.
Print copies are available at the unibz Library branches in Bozen-Bolzano, Brixen-Bressanone and Bruneck-Brunico at 32 € as well as from the bu,press webshop, which also offers free access to the volume.
