Martino Doro, an industrial design student at unibz, has made it: he won the bronze medal at the international competition in Shenzhen and has therefore qualified for WorldSkills 2026 in Shanghai.

The WorldSkills 2024 International Invitational Competition was held at the Shenzhen Institute of Technology in Longgang District. It is a prelude to the 47^th edition of the WorldSkills Competition in Lyon in September 2024. The event in Shenzhen was organized to celebrate World Youth Skills Day on 15 July. The aim was to provide a platform for young people to showcase their skills. The competition, which focuses on industrial design and cloud computing, has attracted more than 50 experts and numerous competitors from 17 countries and regions, including Italy, Iran, South Korea, Russia and Brazil.

"I am really excited to be part of this competition. It's a chance to interact with my peers and challenge myself to see where I can improve," said Martino Doro. "I have noticed that the participants are not only working on design, but also focusing on general ecological technology, an important aspect to consider in industrial design," he told Shenzen Daily.

Emphasising the importance of ecological considerations, Kuno Prey, Professor at the Faculty of Design and Art of unibz, said: "Design is not just about beauty. Designers have to choose materials for products carefully, taking into account their life cycle. It's about sustainability and social responsibility. This event is an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues and determine the future direction of our designs".
