The Competence Center Tourism and Mobility (CCTM) is based at the University Campus Bruneck-Brunico. The Bachelor in Tourism, Sport and Event Management of the Faculty of Economics and Management is located there. The Competence Centre is a joint institution of the university and the regional Circle of Founders, which is consists of municipalities and mountain railway companies from Pustertal. By applied research, the Competence Centre contributes to the sustainable development of the regional tourism economy, paying particular attention to questions of tourism product development and mobility. This should also strengthen the Bruneck-Brunico Campus and stimulate cooperation with the regional economy.
South Tyrol and especially Pustertal are pretty intensive tourist regions. The outstanding natural potential, the special culture at the corssroads between Romance and Germanic languages as well as the continuous development of the tourism supply have lead South Tyrol to one of the most successful tourism areas in Europe. However, the steady growth is increasingly associated with undesirable effects, which are currently being discussed in the context of Overtourism.
Tourist mobility is both a driver and a constraint. A driver, because mobility is becoming increasingly important as the basis and integrative part of travel experiences. Guests feel particularly attracted to the Alps as a scenery and action for mobility-based experiences. A constraint, as the capacity of transport networks and points of interest is limited. Often networks can't be expanded into the narrow valleys. In addition, the transport networks not only serve the guests, but also the local population.
