Sustainable Mobility in Tourism

text

This research area examines how the spatial configuration of South Tyrolean destinations affects traffic flows of both locals and tourists, as well as how congestion impacts the perception of spatial quality. The study focuses on transportation modes such as cars, buses, and trains, as well as active mobility (cycling and walking). The goal is to identify mobility patterns considering seasonal variations and travel purposes (leisure mobility
and commuting).

Using traffic datasets and GIS maps, a tourism mobility database is created, providing a foundation for analysing trends and interpreting congestion effects. The research center develops tools to optimise tourist visitor flows, investigating the impact of incentives (e.g., guest cards and discounts) on mobility behavior and transport choices.
The status of projects in this research area is continuously updated.
