Short bio

Gerhard Sammer studied Teaching Education and orchestral conducting followed by a PhD in Music Pedagogy. He taught in different school types and worked as a staff scientist before he got professor for music education at the University for Music in Würzburg (Germany). In the function of the dean for studies and board member of the international accreditation institution MusiQuE he is strongly involved in quality assurance as well as in several international projects; until 2019 he was president of the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS). From 2020-2023 he was guest/visiting professor at the Free University of Bozen (Italy). His work as free lanced profession in orchestral conducting brought him the chance to work in several European countries with numerous brilliant artists. He is in charge of the artistic director of the tyrolean chamber orchestra “InnStrumenti” and led 200 first performances of orchestra pieces, which is also documented in numerous broadcast recordings (RAI, Italy / ORF, Austria / BR, Germany) and CDs. He also designed and moderated many children´s concerts.
