International Master in

Horticultural Science (IMaHS)

The Master has been developed to meet the present and future challenges of the horticultural sector. The programme is a joint initiative with the University of Bologna, well known for its long tradition in higher education.

Students will experience a multidisciplinary training and research-led teaching in subjects covering the main aspects of horticultural production and the supply chain. A close collaboration with the horticultural industry is a plus of this study programme. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to spend up to two semesters in one of the European partner universities and be entitled to earn a double degree.

Course description

The programme is structured in four semesters (each of them with 30 ECTS credits).

  • The first and second semesters, held at the University of Bologna, have a focus on the economic and ecological sustainability of the production, on vegetable crops, biotechnology, crop physiology, quality of horticultural crops, soil fertility and mechanization.
  • The third semester, at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, covers the sustainable management of fruit trees and grapevines and the supply chain management of horticultural products. The didactic activities of the third semester take advantage of the collaboration with the strong fruit and wine industry of South Tyrol (worldwide-recognized leading district for apple and wine production) and with other local research Institutions (Courses, Teaching Modules and Syllabi)
  • The fourth semester foresees an internship and the preparation of the master thesis.

In addition to regular lectures, laboratories and field visits, students will improve their soft skills during an Academic Basecamp where they will focus on team work, problem solving, decision making, effective communication strategies).
