Bachelor in

Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry in Mountain Environments

In this trilingual programme, you will acquire innovative skills for the sustainable management of agricultural and forestry resources in mountain areas through a unique combination of theoretical learning modules and practical activities.

Course description

We train specialists in the sustainable management of agricultural and forestry systems in mountain areas. The curriculum combines scientific, technological and economic subjects to provide a broad interdisciplinary education.

Two tracks allow students to specialise:

  • Sustainable agricultural production: in-depth study of topics such as fruit growing and viticulture, livestock breeding and husbandry, arable farming, sustainable pest management and irrigation techniques.
  • Mountain forest management: focus on forest ecology, forest management, protection of mountain ecosystems, hydrology and water management measures for the protection of the territory.

Students take part in lectures, practical exercises and fieldwork to acquire skills for current issues, all in South Tyrol, a region where sustainability has always been a guiding principle of forestry and agricultural activities.

The strong focus on environmental protection and sustainable use of resources makes this course unique and meets the needs of a changing labour market that increasingly demands in-depth knowledge in these areas.

In the second year, students deepen their knowledge in applied courses such as livestock farming and breeding, dendrology, agricultural and forest microbiology, marketing, and agricultural and forestry technology.

In the third year, students can choose between two tracks:

  • Mountain forest management: which addresses forest management, forest ecology and the protection of mountain ecosystems.

Students can customise their study plan by choosing 15 ECTS credits in elective subjects.

The mandatory internship allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, while the experimental thesis promotes research skills and turns graduates into active players in the agriculture, forestry and mountain environment management sectors.
