Frequently Asked Questions
  • Fees

When do I have to pay the university fees?
Payment takes place in two instalments, unless otherwise stated in the study manifesto or advertisement. The first instalment is to be paid at the time of enrolment (for those who pre-enrolled in the first session for Economics or Computer Science payment is due before) and the second instalment by 31 March.

How can I pay?
Payment must be done via bank transfer on this bank account held by the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano:
IBAN IT67P0604511619000000009000 - BIC (SWIFT) CRBZIT2B107
No bank expenses can be charged to the beneficiary. Within the European Union, a SEPA bank transfer is available.

And if I don’t pay my university fees?
Payment of the first instalment is a prerequisite for enrolment. Late payment of the second instalment will see a fine applied.
Please note: After the payment deadline, your account will be automatically blocked if your fees payment is not regular.
If you have not paid your fees, you can’t take exams, nor can you transfer to other universities or change to another course.

Can I deduct the tuition fees on my tax declaration in Italy?
Yes, you can deduct them up to 19% (art.13 bis TUIR 22/12/1986 n. 917 and art. 49 D.lgs. 15/12/97 n. 446). You must attach a copy of your payment receipts to your tax declaration.

How can I get a copy of my payment receipts?
You just have to access the Student Portal, select "Study career" from the side menu and then click "Payment receipts". From this page you will be able to download your receipts as pdf files.

What happens if I decide to interrupt my studies and then decide to take them up again in the future?
You have to pay all the instalments for the years that you missed (but not the Provincial Study Tax). If you have interrupted your studies for more than two years, you have to pay for each year that you missed – in place of fees – a fixed sum of € 300. In the period in which you are not studying you cannot sit any exams. Instead, students undertaking a year’s military or community service, women for the year in which they have given birth and students who, for serious medical reasons, and for which they have medical certificates, have to miss periods of study, do not have to pay fees.

  • Exemption and Reimbursement

Are there special circumstances when the fees don’t have to be paid?
Students who have a disability that is officially recognized as being equal to or more than 66% are eligible for total exemption from paying university fees. The relevant certificate issued by the health authorities must be presented at the beginning of the academic year. Foreign students who have a scholarship or grant from the Italian government are also eligible for total exemption from paying university fees.

If I am eligible for a grant from the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol, will my university fees be reimbursed?
Yes, your fees will be reimbursed for that academic year. The University will reimburse your fees and the Province will reimburse the Provincial Study Tax. Any fines that were levied for late payment, however, will not be reimbursed. Students who have a grant to attend post-university courses, specialisation courses and work experience programmes are not eligible for reimbursement of university fees.

How does the reimbursement of fees work?
Using Intranet you have to insert your bank details (you’ll receive all the information via email). The amount of the first instalment will be paid into the bank account you have indicated. N.B. You won’t have to pay the second instalment!
