1. The Faculty

Which are the opening hours of the Faculty Administration?
The Faculty Administration is opened as follows:
Monday and Tuesday
10:00 - 12:00
Thursday and Friday
15:00 - 17:00

When is it possible to talk to the lecturers?
It is possible to talk to the lecturers during their office hours, which are displayed in the Individual Timetable of the Student Portal.

Where are the Faculty's offices?
The Faculty Administation and the offices of the teaching staff are located in the K-building (satellite station) in piazza Università. During the opening hours an administrative collaborator is available at the InfoPoint on the 3rd floor (office K3.08).

How may I contact the Faculty Administration?
The collaborators of the Faculty Administration may be contacted by phone at the number 0471 017000 or by e-mail: science.technology@unibz.it.

How may I contact the teaching staff?
It is possible to contact the teaching staff either by phone or by e-mail. The relative contact information can be found in the following lists:

What sort of information is provided by the Faculty Administration and which by the other administrative departments?
The Faculty Administration responds to all requests related to the study plan, the lecture timetables, exam recognitions, regular examinations and the degree thesis.
In order to obtain information on work placements please contact the Careers Advisory Service, for exchange programmes the International Relations Office and the Student Secretariat with regard to fees, your personal account and the Student Card.


2. The Bachelor programmes

Until when can I pre-enrol for the Bachelor programmes?
It is possible to pre-enrol for the Bachelor programmes until 20th August 2012.

How do I pre-enrol for the Bachelor programmes? 
Pre-enrolment must be effected online. It is necessary to hand in the filled out an signed pre-enrolment form, together with all the requested documents, in the Student Secretariat. Only documents delivered by the due date and containing exclusively original signatures shall be accepted. The pre-enrolment documents can also be send by post. ATTENTION: The date of the postmark will not be taken into consideration.  

How is the selection procedure going to be?
The selection procedure consists of an examination to determine the general and specialized knowledge (multiple choice test), to give the information about the prior knowledge in the field of logic, mathematics and science subjects.

Which are the language prerequisites that have to be fullfilled?
It is possible to enrol for an undergraduate degree course if you can certify adequate language proficiency (minimum level required: B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference) in at least two of the three official teaching languages (English, Italian, German).

How can these language competences be demonstrated?
Language proficiency can be demonstrated in the following ways:
a) holding secondary school leaving qualifications (A-levels, Abitur, Maturità, etc) where the main teaching language of the final year was in one of the official teaching languages of the undergraduate degree course;
b) presenting, for the relevant languages, a recognised qualification or certificate;
c) passing a language test organised by the Language Centre of the Free Unversity of Bozen/Bolzano.

When will the rank lists made public?
By 5th September 2012 the provisional ranklists will be published and once the conditional places have been transformed into definite places, the final ranklists shall be published starting from 10th September 2012.

Until when can I officially enrol?
Enrolment will be possible until 3rd October 2012.

Is it possible to attend lectures if I am not enrolled at the University?
Any person interested in a specific course can attend its lectures as a guest auditor.

When does the lecture period begin?
The lecture period starts from 1st Ovtober 2012.

When are lectures held?
Lectures are held from Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 20:00 and also on Saturday from 08:00 to 13:30. The timetable organisation depends on the availability of each lecturer.

What is the language used in the lectures?
Lectures are held in German, Italian and English. Within the undergraduate degree course the proportion of each language is approximately 1/3.

Where can I find the timetable for lectures, exercises and office hours?

If the timetable changes where can I find the relevant information?
If the change is made "last minute", in general you will be informed by e-mail. In any case, we recommend you to regularly check the timetable in order to remain updated on eventual changes. 

What do the shortcuts in the timetables mean?
The buildings and rooms at the FUB are identified by letters and numbers: the letters represent the building in which the room can be found. Among the three following numbers, the first refers to the floor and the subsequent numbers to the room number (for example: E220 = E-building, 2° floor, room 20).

Is it essential to attend lectures?
No, but attendance is highly recommended. What is more it is essential to follow all the laboratory exercises.

Where can I see my study plan?
Each students' study plan can be retrieved in the Student Portal, within the Study Career section.

What is the Student Portal for?
The Student Portal is a platform on which you can:
  • visualize your study plan, the passed exams and the exams you still have to do;
  • consult your personalized timetable (with the possibility of adding and hiding courses);
  • subscribe to exams and optional courses;
What is more, within this portal you will be able to use a lot of useful services like the Exam SMS service. Additionally the Student Portal allows you to modify your personal data, reset your password and visualize or download the payment receipts of the University fees for your annual tax declaration.

How and when may I choose the optional courses?
During the summer break students will receive an e-mail from the Faculty Administration containing all the relevant information for subscription to all optional courses. Students can freely choose their optional subjects through the Student Portal. Please consider the fact that “optional courses” are just those courses which are not compulsory for any semester of the study programme.

How can I enrol for an exam?
It is necessary to enrol for any exam at least 5 days befor the date of the examination through the Student Portal. The same rules apply for the cancellation of an enrolment.

How many times can I attempt an examination within one academic year?
There are two possibilities to participate in a specific exam each academic year.  

How many examination sessions are offered during one academic year?
There are three regular examination sessions (corresponding more or less to the months of January, June and September) and one extraordinary session (for the Summer Schools).   

Is it possible to carry out an examination in any other language than the offical one of the course?
No, the examination must be completed in the official language of the course. 

Can I abandon an examination in progress?
Yes, but you must declare the following on the examination paper “I declare that I have abandoned this examination” (followed by the student’s signature). In this case, the exam is still considered as an attempt. 

What happens if I cannot be present during an examination because of health problems?
In this case you have to send an e-mail to the Student Secretariat by the day the examination takes place. What is more you have to hand in a valid medical certificate, which explicitly identifies the days on which you were ill.

When and where will the examination results be published?
The examination results will be published in the so-called Public Folders (accessible via Outlook or Webmail OWA). What is more, the results will be affixed on the notice board of the relative study programme. 

Can I reject an examination grade?
No, students cannot reject a grade. However, they have the right to present a written appeal within 30 days of the grade’s publication on the notice board.

Can I see my written examinations?
Yes, during the opening hours of the Faculty Administration. For organisational matters students are kindly asked to fix an appointment in advance. In any case it isn't possible to get photocopies of any written examination. 

Is it possible to subscribe to an exam in a language which I haven't certified yet?
The regular examinations (except those regarding the fundamentals of Mathematics) can only be done if the course language has been certified at level B1.

Which are the prerequisites in order to pass to the study years exceeding the first?
As follows the criteria for enrolment after the first year:
  • 2nd year: 30 CP + certificate at level A2 of the third language
  • 3rd year: 70 CP + certificate at level B1 of the third language
Those undergraduate degree students who, at the end of the first (second) academic year, have not reached at least 30 (70) credit points, as well as those who have no certified an A2 (B1) level with regard to the third language, have to subscribe again to the same study year.

When do I have to carry out the internship?
The internship can be done starting from the the end of the lecture period of the second study year.

How long must the internship be?
The duration of the internships depends on the study plan of each degree course:
  • Bachelor in Agricultural Science and Agricultural Technology (starting from the academic year 2011/2012): 9 credits = 225 hours (corresponding to approximately 6 weeks or 29 working days)
  • Bachelor in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering (starting from the academic year 2011/2012): 6 credits = 150 hours (corresponding to approximately 4 weeks or 19 working days)
Students are free to choose their work placement.


3. The Master programmes

  • 3.1. Master in Fruit Science

Until when can I pre-enrol for the Master programme?
It is possible to pre-enrol for the Master programme until 20th August 2012.

How do I pre-enrol for the Master programme? 
Pre-enrolment must be effected online. It is necessary to hand in the filled out an signed pre-enrolment form, together with all the requested documents, in the Student Secretariat. Only documents delivered by the due date and containing exclusively original signatures shall be accepted. The pre-enrolment documents can also be send by post. ATTENTION: The date of the postmark will not be taken into consideration.    

Which is the selection procedure?
Potential candidates who have pre-enrolled shall be assessed for admission based on academic qualifications and interview in order to ascertain the candidate’s cultural and attitudinal suitability.The rank lists are created following the criteria as below:
  • max 50 points for the university certificate score
  • max 50 points for the interview

Which are the language prerequisites that have to be fullfilled?
Lectures in this MSc program will be conducted in English. Therefore, the Course Committee shall determine the candidate’s level of knowledge of the language. Students shall have the possibility to attend pre-MSc language courses offered by the Language Centre of the Free University of Bolzano in order to reach the required level of competence.

Until when can I officially enrol?
Enrolment will be possible until 15th October 2012.

When does the lecture period begin?
The lecture period starts from 1st October 2012.

What is the language used in the lectures?
The language used in teaching is English. Optional courses can be offered in Italian or German.

4. The Master 1st and 2nd level

  • 4.1. Master 1st level in "Innovation Engineering"

When starts the next Master in "Innovation Engineering"?
The next cycle of the Master 1st level in "Innovation Engineering" will start in October 2011 and finish in September 2013.

Who can apply for the Master in "Innovation Engineering"?
This Master is specific for professionals, managers, departement heads and collaborators with high potential, who have gained at least 3 years of work experience in a leading position. A Bachelor degree is necessary in order to be awarded the title of Master 1st level, however participants without University degree may also take part of the project and will be given a participation certificate.

Which are the language prerequisites that have to be fullfilled?
It is necessary to have a good knowledge of the Italian and German language, and basic knowledge of English.

How much is the enrolment fee?
For the academic year 2011/2012 the enrolment fee for this Master is € 13.500,00 (plus the annual provincial study tax of € 130,50).

Until when can I officially pre-enrol?
Pre-enrolment will be possible from the beginning of June to 30th September 2011.

How do I pre-enrol for this Master? 
Pre-enrolment must be effected online. It is necessary to hand in the filled out an signed pre-enrolment form, together with all the requested documents, in the Student Secretariat. Only documents delivered by the due date and containing exclusively original signatures shall be accepted. The pre-enrolment documents can also be send by post. ATTENTION: The date of the postmark will not be taken into consideration.  

When will the colloquium be conducted?
The colloquium for the candidates of the next cycle will take place within the following timespan: from 30th September 2011 to 14th October 2011.

How is the rank list determined?
The rank list will be determined by the following criteria: 
  • 50% of the final grade: the professional CV
  • 15% of the final grade: the final grade of the Bachelor degree
  • 30% of the final grade: the colloquium
  • 5% of the final grade: other assessable titles (publications, research activities, specialised courses)

When will the rank list be made public?
It will be made public on the website of the Faculty within a few days after the colloquium. Furthermore each candidate will be informed via e-mail.

Until when can I officially enrol?
Enrolment must occur within 10 working days after the date of publication of the rank list in the Student Secretariat. The official enrolment form and the relevant documentation will be send by e-mail to the admitted candidates.

How are the lectures structured?
Lectures are structured on the basis of a mixed participation model, which is particularly suitable for professionals, managers and collaborators who are employed in a company: 
  • one short weekend each 2 weeks (Friday and Saturday morning, 12 hours ex-cathedra teaching)
  • one unit of distance-learning "on demand" (e-learning) each 2 weeks (alternated to the short weekends, approximately 2 hours)
  • one long weekend per semester (from Wednesday to Saturday morning, 28 hours ex-cathedra teaching)

Which are the languages used in lectures?
The languages used are Italian and German, accompanied by English for particular events and seminars held by international speakers.

  • 4.2. Master 2nd level "CasaClima - KlimaHaus"

When starts the next Master "CasaClima - KlimaHaus"?
The next cycle of the Master 2nd level "CasaClima - KlimaHaus" will start in October 2012 and finish probably in June 2014.

Who can apply for the Master "CasaClima - KlimaHaus"?
Anyone who has completed 5 years of university studies can apply for the Master 2nd level “CasaClima - KlimaHaus”. In order to participate at the selection process it is necessary to hold a master's degree of the degree classes 4/S (architecture and construction engineering) or 28/S (civil engineering) or another Italian or foreign degree, which is considered equivalent by the Commission for the selection procedure. Also those who completed a 5-year degree, of the respective degree classes (architecture, construction and civil engineering) according to the rules that prevailed before the university reform, can subscribe to the selection procedure.

How much is the enrolment fee?
For the academic year 2010/2011 the enrolment fee for this Master is € 7.000,00 (plus the annual provincial study tax of € 130,50). The enrolment fee for the academic year 2012/2013 will be decided by the University Council and made public, together with the public announcement regarding subscription, in May 2012.

Until when can I officially pre-enrol?
Pre-enrolment will be possible from June to August 2012.

How do I pre-enrol for this Master? 
Pre-enrolment must be effected online. It is necessary to hand in the filled out an signed pre-enrolment form, together with all the requested documents, in the Student Secretariat. Only documents delivered by the due date and containing exclusively original signatures shall be accepted. The pre-enrolment documents can also be send by post. ATTENTION: The date of the postmark will not be taken into consideration.  

How many pre-enrolments were there in the earlier editions?
Pre-enrolments of the last year were 57.

When will the colloquium be conducted?
The colloquium for the candidates of the next cycle will take place within the following timespan: from the middle of August to the beginning of September 2012.

How is the rank list determined?
The rank list will be determined by the following criteria: 
  • 60% of the final grade: the colloquium
  • 20% of the final grade: the final grade of the university degree 
  • 20% of the final grade: other qualifications (work experience, research activity, publications and specialised courses)

When will the rank list be made public?
It will be made public on the website of the Faculty within a few days after the colloquium. Furthermore each candidate will be informed via e-mail.

Until when can I officially enrol?
Enrolment must occur within 10 working days after the date of publication of the rank list in the Student Secretariat. The official enrolment form and the relevant documentation will be send by e-mail to the admitted candidates.

How are the lectures structured?
Lectures will be held for one week per month (generally the first week of the month): from Monday to Saturday (8 hours/day). The total duration of the Master is of 2 academic years. There will be a break in February, July, August and September of the first study year. During the second study year there are no lectures in February, March, April, May and June, because in this timespan students do their internship and write their Master thesis. 

Which are the languages used in lectures?
The languages used are predominantly Italian (ca. 80%), but also English (ca. 20%).

How long must the internship be?
The internship amounts to a total of 150 hours (corresponding to approximately 4 weeks or 19 working days), which should be implemented during the period scheduled especially for it.

Are there any laboratories, in addition to the lectures?
There will be two laboratory sessions, each of 50 hours duration. The first will focus on preparing students for the “Consulente energetico CasaClima” and the “Auditore autorizzato CasaClima” examinations.
