PhD programmes and PhD calls The new calls for PhD programmes at the Free University of Bozen/Bozano for the 2012/2013 academic year (XXVIII cycle) will be published at the beginning of July, together with the application instructions, deadline and grant availability. The courses are due to start on 7 January, 2013.

The call for admission to the PhD programme in Linguistics, together with the Università degli Studi di Pavia will be published in May 2012.


Faculty of Education
The PhD programme in General Pedagogy, Social Pedagogy and General Education has been running since 2004/2005 (XX cycle). The programme coordinator is Prof. Susanne Ursula Elsen. This programme will also be available in the 2012/2013 academic year and the place of study is Brixen/Bressanone. For further information:

Faculty of Computer Science
The PhD programme has been running since 2004/2005 (XX cycle). Since 2011/2012 there has also been a European programme (EPCL) which provides a joint qualification. Applications are already open for the European PhD programme. The programme coordinator is Prof. Werner Nutt. This programme will also be available in the 2012/2013 academic year and the place of study is Bozen/Bolzano. For further information:

Faculty of Science and Technology
The PhD programme in Management of Mountain Environments has been running since 2010/2011 (XXVI cycle) and its coordinator is Prof. Stefan Zerbe.
Since 2011/2012 (XXVII cycle), the Faculty has been running a PhD programme in Sustainable Energy and Technologies, coordinated by Prof. Andrea Gasparella.
These two programmes will also be offered in the 2012/2013 academic year and the place of study is Bozen/Bolzano. For further information:

Language Study Unit
Since 2007/2008,  the Language Study Unit of the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano and the Università degli studi di Pavia have been involved in a project in order to offer a PhD programme in Linguistics. It is a project involving various institutions in which applications are invited for a grant that will enable the candidate to follow the programme at the Language Study Unit. The Unit’s director is Prof. Rita Franceschini. This programme will also be available in the 2012/2013 academic year. For further information:
