Interreg IV B – Alpine Space II (2007-2013) Programme
Interreg IV B - Alpine Space II is a transnational cooperation programme of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), whose general objective is to strengthen the competitiveness and attractiveness of the countries belonging to the area of cooperation through the development of joint projects.
The programme has three priorities:
- Priority 1 - Competitiveness and attractiveness of the area of cooperation
Objective: To promote the creation of new job opportunities and a sustainable territorial development (urban and rural) of the areas concerned, and to support the development of innovative SMEs, creating an appropriate framework and incentives for their cooperation with research centres.
- Priority 2 - Accessibility and Connectivity
Objective: to make access to public services, transport, information networks easier and to promote better use of existing infrastructure, all in a sustainable way.
- Priority 3 - Environment and risk prevention
Objective: To support the development of the natural and cultural heritage and the intelligent use of natural resources, by avoiding wasting them, and preventing natural hazards related on one hand to the development of new technologies and on the other to climate change.
The program funds projects that involve at least 3 partners from different countries of the Alpine area.
The regions eligible for funding are:
- Italy (Lombardy, Valle d’Aosta, Piemonte, Liguria, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Friuli Venezia Giulia);
- Austria;
- Slovenia;
- France (Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Franche-Comté, Alsace);
- Germany (Oberbayern and Schwaben in Bayern, Tübingen and Freiburg in Baden-Württemberg).
- Liechtenstein and Switzerland can participate in the project, as long as they are self-financing.
The main recipients of the funding are:
- Universities and research centres;
- Centres for education and training;
- Local, regional and national institutions;
- Companies;
- Chambers of Commerce;
- Environmental agencies;
- NGOs and non-profit organizations for the management of natural resources;
- Other public or private beneficiaries compatible with the objectives of the three priorities (for each priority there is a specific list of beneficiaries admitted).
Each project can take up to 36 months and the Italian partners in the project are guaranteed 100% funding of the expenses that have been approved.
The funding is available through the publication of annual funding advertisements.
At any time of the year it is also possible to submit project ideas, both to verify their compliance regarding the topics covered by the programme and to find possible partners.

The new 2014-2020 Programme will be published in 2014; until then there will be no further calls published.
