The performance agreements

This is an innovative instrument that is being adopted by an ever-increasing number of universities in Europe: local governments, committed to reaching the targets set down by the Lisbon agreement, are working closely with universities to create strategic agreements to harness best practice that will increase knowledge and its diffusion, and to stimulate innovation so that the beneficial effects produced will be even more complex and far-reaching. On the other hand, universities need continuous investment in order to be able to plan their work on a short and medium-term basis.

For this reason, on 23 December 2008, the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano signed the “Performance agreemant" with the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol concerning the three-year period from 2008 to 2010. This requires the University to reach certain developmental objectives, and the Provincial government commits itself to provide funding for the three years. The achievement of these objectives, which were agreed upon after intense consultations within the institution and with the local government, will be measured following various indicators and criteria. The Development Office has the task to monitor these indicators, together with the Controlling department, and ensure all the stakeholders (faculties, services and offices) are kept informed.
